The task
`git lfs track` takes more than 30 seconds to complete in a repository with ~31 k tracked files, even when the working directory contains over 600 k files, most of which are excluded by `.gitignore`. This makes the command unusable in tools like Sourcetree that run `git lfs track` after every staging action.
