The task

The output filter system currently allows variables to be defined as simple named references (e.g., `Qout`, `evaporation`) in the YAML filter configuration. However, there is no way to define variables as arithmetic expressions (e.g., `foo = Qin - soil_cs.frootc` or `doubleQ = 2 * Qout`).
