XML does **not** have a single-line comment syntax (like `//` in C/Java or `#` in Python/Bash). The only comment syntax available in XML is the block comment: `<!-- comment -->`. Even when commenting out a single line, you must use both the opening `<!--` and closing `-->` delimiters.
